Whatchyall think of the deal?
Pineda's 4.40 road era doesn't look too pretty staring ~17 starts at yankee stadium in the face but the wins will be there and Montero becomes Edgar 2.0

I think it actually might hurt both of their values. I'm sure Pineda will pickup some more wins, but it will probably be at his ERA and WHIP's expense. ... Montero was a question mark to begin with and Safeco certainly won't help his value.... imo

Hurts both their value in the short run IMO. They're both extremely young with high ceilings so who knows.

I think it could potentially hurt Pineda the most. Not only does he jump from a pitcher firendly to a hitter friendly park, he also jumps from possibly the weakest hitting division to the strongest.
That said, assuming he doesn't have a sophmore slump, his win totals will increase to help balance things out.
Ultimately, there have been plenty of Cy Young candidates and winners come out of the AL East, so it's not impossible for him to overcome the change.
In the end, given his age/upside, I don't think it will hurt his fantasy value/pick projection in keeper/dynasty leagues.

Jeff AKA Napoleon are you trying sell me snake oil called Pineda ? :-) . Inside joke from our last league . A owner called a bunch of us "snake oil " salesmen .
Montero is the winner , homers will be down but gap hits a plenty ! Oh and he'll play with no one hatin on him in Seattle

Well, I may be the only Mariner diehard in our league. The move shocked me as Jack Z is known for keeping things under the radar (as is Cashman). My initial reaction was kinda disappointed as I thought we should have gotten more for Pineda and Campos. But then logic made me happier to see Montero and I learned more of Noesi. They are planning to catch Montero, not sure it will work, but many below avg catchers at the age of 22 got to be serviceable. Napoli, Piazza, Javy Lopez from Braves come to mind. I do believe he will hit like Edgar Martinez. Safeco did not hur Edgar one bit, because he hit doubles and had power to all fields. So does Montero, in fact he has monster power to Right where Safeco is short. Mariners cannot get free agent hitters to come to Seattle right now. Big stigma on dimensions of ballpark. So you have to give up something big. One could argue that the mariners have 3 starters in minors all with the same upside as Pineda. I do hope they are not done, but a 2,3,4 of Ackley, Smoak and Montero could be monstrous for the next 6 years.

Love the optimism, Eric. If you're right, they might win 70 games one of these years

Seems like most think it hurts Pineda and I agree, but from what I've read elsewhere many seem to think it goes up or a wash. But their arguments always seem to rest on the fact that he'll likely have more win opportunities. While that may be true, wins are such a fickle and unpredictible stat that I wouldn't bank on it, particularly if I'm trying to argue his value.
I think it does help the Mariners. They are pitching heavy in the minors. While most may not have quite the upside as Pineda, they'll likely be very solid some day and hitters like Montero don't grow on trees. When you trade from a position of strength to fill some gaps, that's a win in my book. That goes for both teams in this trade as much as I hate to admit it about the Yankees.
